March Newsletter 2017

We are in the midst of a very busy half term, so I have produced this newsletter earlier to inform everyone of the events. We hope everyone enjoys participating the various activities, and good luck especially to those involved in shows, such as Mary Poppins, the Dance Competition and the Music Festival at the Opera House. We are also holding our annual Chocolate Bingo on Thursday 30th March at 6pm in the hall.

Mr Eaton

FOOTBALL

Congratulations to the school football A team who won their final league match against Thornton. The children won the Division, and will now play at the League Finals in May, hopefully at Highbury Stadium.

The children will compete in the Elliot Cup, and our Year 3 and 4 children will be competing in the inaugural Wyre tournament at Fuse.
There will be further tournaments and a girls’ tournament after Easter.

SWIMMING GALA
For the third time in five years, we became the area Swimming Champions! We are especially proud of the extraordinary effort of our talented swimmers! All of our children posted their personal bests, under the pressure and nerves of being at a major event. Congratulations to the children for their success, and to Mrs Halstead, Mrs Boulton, Mrs Heatley and Mr Cooke for their work with all of our swimmers.

Huge congratulations for becoming Swimming Champions to:
Harry Clarke, Grace Oates, Jonathan Fielding, Taylor McCarron, Emily Mitchell, Kaitlyn Rutland, Emily Hardcastle, Ellie Williams, Natalia Ellis, Lilly Hook, Reece Hughes, Tyler Heaton,
And to Kristen Beswick, Rafael Eaton, Leonie Beswick and Anirudh Vikram (who all became the Breaststroke Relay Champions).

Further congratulations to Rafael Eaton who became the individual freestyle champion, to Leonie Beswick who became the individual breaststroke champion (girls) and to Jonathan Fielding who became the individual breaststroke champion (boys).

What has impressed us the most is the determination to improve, their support of each other and sheer will to do their very best!

We hope the children continue with this athletic achievement, and good luck to Kristen and Jonathan at the forthcoming Regional Swimming Championships, and to Rafael at the British Schools’ Biathlon Championships.

BREAKFAST AND AFTER SCHOOL CLUB
If you need childcare before or after school, please see the school office, or ring Mrs Porter direct on 07538924508.

The Breakfast Club is open from 7.30am until school time, and children receive food and drinks at both the breakfast and after school clubs.

FIRST HOLY COMMUNION
Thank you to the children and families who have committed to the Holy Communion programme. The children will receive excellent support from the parish, the Catechists and Father Peter as they prepare for their first Holy Communion and Reconciliation.

GYMNASTICS
Congratulations to Verity Beaumont-Cooke for winning the Burnley Gymnastics Championships, her first gold medal in floor and vault elements, well done!

REMINDERS
Articles of jewellery (including earrings) are not allowed in school, they could cause injury to the wearer or another person. Earrings have been a constant source of argument and injury in the past. The Local Authority bans them for P.E. and swimming. The Governors of this school have ruled that no jewellery, other than a wrist watch, can be worn in school. Shoes must be worn as standard uniform. Please ensure all nail varnish is removed before attending school.

LOST PROPERTY
Please can all property and clothing belonging to your children have their names written or sewn in.

SCHOOL CAR PARK
Please could all parents refrain from using the school car park when collecting children from clubs that finish at 4.30pm, and especially dropping off at school time in the morning.

BLACKPOOL MUSIC FESTIVAL
Thank you to Mrs Rae and Mrs Boulton for their hard work, with support from several staff, as she prepares the children for the Blackpool Music Festival on Monday 6th March, at Blackpool Opera House. Mrs Rae is also preparing Year 5 to take part in the inaugural Wyre Dance competition, on 14th March at the Marine Hall.

ADMISSIONS FOR FUTURE YEARS
If you would like to add your child to the admissions list, please see me or Mrs Fairclough. If you have a sibling of a child currently at Sacred Heart, it is still worth registering with us. We also hold registers of interest for 2018 and 2019.

FRIENDS OF SACRED HEART
We have recently donated money to fund costumes and props for Mary Poppins, and contributed to paying for the Panto trip and coaches. We have the Mother’s Day event in March, and the Easter Chocolate Bingo on Thursday 30th March at 6pm in school.

MUSIC
If there is any child who would like to learn to play the violin, guitar, keyboard, clarinet, flute or brass, please speak to Mr Eaton or Mrs Fairclough, and we can arrange this for you.

SCHOOL MEALS
We are continuing to retain our school meal price at £1.65 per meal, which we will continue to keep for the foreseeable future, still the lowest of all the local schools. School requires two week notice if you change from school dinner to packed lunch or vice versa.
