Lancashire Sport School of the Year

Tuesday, January 20th, 2015

I am writing to share some fantastic news!

Following our success at being chosen by Wyre Borough Council to be Wyre Sports School of the Year, we were invited to the Lancashire Sports Awards.

At the Awards, we were in the School of the Year category, alongside the other seven regional winners within Lancashire, out of the 541 schools in Lancashire. We came third last year, but this year… we won!!

It is an amazing achievement by our school to be given the honour of Lancashire Sport School of the Year, and it recognises the dedication, commitment and enthusiasm of all of our children, staff, parents and governors to sport and promoting physical activity.

We will continue to give as many physical activity and sporting opportunities throughout the school year, and try different sports too, especially as we build towards major events such as the World Athletics Championships and the Olympics in Rio next year.

It is incredible how children grow in confidence through achievement in sport, in making personal bests, being part of a team, or simply enjoying physical activity. We want children to enjoy sport, and keep being active in high school and beyond!

Yours sincerely

Mr P. Eaton

July Newsletter

Friday, July 4th, 2014

On behalf of the staff of Sacred Heart, we would like to thank all parents, Governors and parishioners for their help and support throughout the year. I would like to thank all the children for all their hard work, and we intend to keep up the achievement next year. I hope everyone has a wonderful summer holiday, and we will see you in September!
Mr Eaton

Thank you to everyone who helped with our Summer Fair, raising over £1400. The atmosphere at the Fair was very good, and we appreciate the support from families, and the preparation and hard work by volunteers, staff and children for organising stalls.

We are delighted to announce that Mrs Rae was a finalist for the Lancashire Pride Awards, for Employee of the Year! This is in recognition for her dedication and hard work in our school, and for all the events and clubs she involves herself in. Mrs Rae was shortlisted from over 500 nominations by the judging panel. Congratulations Mrs Rae!

We have continued to invest in music and performance by extending the services of Mr Smith, who will continue to teach Samba to Year 3 from September, and also teach ukulele to Years 4,5 and 6. This is exciting for the children, as the ukulele is a very accessible instrument.

Mrs Rae is leading a group of Year 6 children, who have been invited by the Grand Theatre to perform their act from the Dance Festival. It is a fantastic opportunity for the children, and the show starts at 6.30pm on 10/7/14.

Year 6 recently attended Borwick Hall outdoor activity centre. Their behaviour was impeccable, and they had a wonderful time with the activities and being away together. We would like to thank the staff for giving up their time to accompany the children.

School uniform orders are available for collection from the school office.

Thank you to all the parents and family members who supported the children for our sports day. The children produced some exciting races, and thank you to our staff for preparing the sports day. Thank you also to all competitors in the parents’ race, and for being good sports with the technical challenges involved!

We have a lot ofchildren competing in many events with other schools over the next few weeks, alongside competitions being run at school.
Our children competed well at the Year 3/4 Tennis competition. In the Girls’ Cricket competition the girls continued their winning run, reaching the final for the second successive year, only to lose by 4 runs! It was a fantastic achievement, with 10 successive victories over 2 years. In the Norcross cricket competition, the children finished second overall too!
Our girls football team played Shakespeare and Breck last week, losing to Shakespeare but beating Breck, well done girls!
Coming up, we have the Wyre Rounders tournament and we will be defending our Wyre Athletics title.

At the recent Rossall events, well done to our Tag Rugby team for playing so well, and congratulations for our hockey team in winning the Rossall Hockey Tournament Plate.

Thank you to all the staff for preparing the children for these events, and thank you to the children for trying their best at each tournament. Thank you to all parents who come to support and give lifts to the children.
