Newsletter – September 2011
Friday, September 2nd, 2011
Welcome to the first newsletter of this school year. I would first like to thank all staff for their hard work in preparing for the new school year.
I would like to extend a warm welcome to new parents whose children have joined us for the first time in our Reception class and in other classes throughout the school.
We intend to have a happy and successful year, continue to develop our outstanding school and enjoy life at Sacred Heart.
Mr Eaton.
Uniform: Please come and collect your uniform orders for the new school year. We have had the orders delivered to the school office. If you would like to order or buy uniforms and have not placed an order, please see the school office.
Please could all long hair be tied back to help reduce the possibilities of lice spreading. Thank you to everyone for wearing the correct uniform and please remember the correct PE kits.
Allotment: We will be harvesting the remaining crops (plus the apple collection from the nature area). If you have any unused, unwanted seeds or bulbs or splitting of annual plants we can make good use of them in school. We are also collecting empty jars, as we are hoping to make chutney as well.
Police talks: Mrs Blencowe has been establishing good links with the local police force and has arranged information sessions in class for our children. The first sessions in class will include internet safety, in Years 4 to 6. Then all classes will be having sessions on ‘stranger danger’ and road safety, which will lead to road safety work we hope to do with our volunteers, to educate children about the dangers facing all of us on our busy roads.
Special visitors: We will be visited by our Local MP, Paul Maynard on Friday 9th September and by the Bishop of Lancaster on Monday 10th October. The Bishop will be leading a blessing of the new hall, starting at 10.30am, in which we will incorporate our harvest celebrations. All parents are welcome.
School council: We are currently deciding on the school councillors for 2011/2012, with interested children preparing a short speech to their peers as part of the decision making process. The school council continues to be successful and we wish to continue to hear pupils’ opinions and allow them to contribute to changes in school.
Parents’ evening: This will take place on Wednesday 12th October 2011. An appointments’ list will be in the school reception nearer the time. Please choose a time for our child when you can discuss the progress being made and how we can work together to further your child’s development.
Breakfast and After school club: If you need childcare before and after school please see the school office or ring Mrs Heatley direct on 07538924508.
Friends of Sacred Heart: We are holding our next meeting on tuesday 13th September in the Year 6 classroom with a creche in the Year 3 classroom. We will be discussing the arrangements for the disco and infant party, the Ladies’ evening, the Christmas fair and spending the money raised. all parents are welcome.
SATS 2012: The SATs dates for the Year 6 are the week beginning 14th May 2012.
Emergency contacts: Please ensure that you have given school any change of contact details, particularly changing mobile phone numbers. Also the more contacts listed for a child, the easier it is to get in touch regarding your child, particularly in an emergency.
