March Newsletter

We are in the midst of a very busy half term, so I have produced this newsletter earlier to inform everyone of the events. We hope everyone enjoys participating the various activities, and good luck especially to those involved in shows, such as The Lion King and the Music Festival at the Opera House. We are also holding our Easter Chocolate Bingo on Wednesday 28th March at 6pm in the hall.

NON-UNIFORM DAY

We are holding a non-uniform day for the children on Friday 2nd March, in advance of our Mother’s Day event. The ’payment’ is to bring a present for the event, which is on the following Friday, where children will buy a present (which is wrapped for them) for £2.

SWIMMING GALA

For the fourth time in six years, we became the area Swimming Champions! We are especially proud of the extraordinary effort of our talented swimmers! All of our children produced excellent performances, under the pressure and nerves of being at a major event. Congratulations to the children for their success, and to Mrs Halstead, Mrs Boulton, Mrs Heatley and Mr Cooke for their work with all of our swimmers.

Huge congratulations for becoming Swimming Champions to:

Grace Oates, Jonathan Fielding, Taylor McCarron, Reece Hughes, Isabella Urmston, Elliotte Wheeldon, Anirudh Vikram, Kristen Beswick, Scarlett Tushingham, Lucy Forsyth-Parker, Leona Donnelly, Hannah Schwela, Matthew Avis, Louie Taylor, Oliver Hargreaves and Dominic Birch.

And to Jonathan, Scarlett, Isabella and Reece (who all became the Backstroke Relay Champions).

Congratulations also to our boys freestyle team, who won gold for the first ever time! (Oliver Hargreaves, Louie Taylor, Matthew Avis and Taylor McCarron).

And a special mention to Jonathan Fielding who became the individual freestyle champion.

What has impressed us the most is the determination to improve, their support of each other and sheer will to do their very best!

PLAYGROUND MARKINGS

The Friends of Sacred Heart have paid for new line markings for the children, for both the infant and junior playgrounds. We hope the children get years of enjoyment from them. Parents are welcome to use the fitness circuit training before and after school (no charge).

FRIENDS OF SACRED HEART

We have recently donated money to fund costumes and props for The Lion King and the Music Festival, and contributed to paying for the Panto trip and coaches, and paid for new line markings on the playgrounds. We have the Mother’s Day event on 9th March, and the Easter Chocolate Bingo on Thursday 28th March at 6pm in school. We have our next meeting of the school year on Tuesday 13th March 2018 at 3.30pm, and all parents and grandparents are welcome to attend, and share new (and old) ideas for our school social and fundraising events.

BLACKPOOL MUSIC FESTIVAL

Thank you to Mrs Rae for all her hard work, with support from several staff, as she prepares the children for the Blackpool Music Festival on Monday 12th March, at Blackpool Opera House.

THE LION KING!

Good luck to the children involved in our latest stage production! We are sure all of their hard work will pay off!

Thank you to the children for the commitment, and to Miss Darville, Mrs Wilson, Mrs Heatley, Abbie Heatley, Mrs Urmston, Mrs Saraswathy, Mrs Porter, Ms Collins and Mrs Johnson for their hard work in preparing the children.

The performance dates (in school) are as follows:

-Tuesday 6th March 6.00pm

-Thursday 8th March 6.00pm

-Friday 9th March 1.30pm

WYRE ATHLETICS CHAMPIONS!

Congratulations to our Sportshall athletics team, who represented Wyre at the Lancashire Sportshall athletics Final. The children finished 12th overall, out of 450 primary schools in Lancashire!

The children have used their break times to practise, showing great dedication and determination., and many competed for Blackpool Athletics Club in preparation for the event.

Well done to all of the team members: Dominic Birch, Matthew Avis, Trayden Jarrett, Louie Taylor, Taylor McCarron, Jonathan Fielding, Reece Hughes, Liubomyr Tolkach, Connor Simeon, Oliver Hargreaves, Grace Oates, Dakota Higson, Mia Bradley, Natalia Sproat, Emily Robinson-Edwardes, Bethany Hutchinson, Phoebe Hutchinson, Lucy Forsyth-Parker, Leona Donnelly and Kristen Beswick.

The boys finished an amazing 4th overall, and we had some exceptional team and individual performances:

Dominic Speed bounce 1st place overall– Dominic is the official Lancashire Speed bounce champion!

Bethany Hutchinson and Grace Oates ran the 6 lap relay (Girls 6 lap paarlauf) and came 1st place overall– Bethany and Grace are the official Lancashire 6 Lap Champions! Grace produced the individual performance of the day in that event, running four of the six laps and keeping the lead from start to finish.

BREAKFAST AND AFTER SCHOOL CLUB

If you need childcare before or after school, please see the school office, or ring Mrs Porter direct on 07538924508. We have extended opening until 6pm. The cost of the morning session is £2.75 and the after school session is £5.50.

The Breakfast Club is open from 7.30am until school time, and children receive food and drinks at both the breakfast and after school clubs.

ABSENCES AND APPOINTMENTS

In addition to no longer being allowed to authorise holiday absences, we are now expected to see evidence of appointments, if your child requires a medical appointment during school time. Please contact school before 9.30 a.m. if your child is absent, otherwise the absence could be deemed unauthorised.

REMINDERS

Articles of jewellery are not allowed in school, as they could cause injury to the wearer or another person. Earrings have been a constant source of argument and injury in the past. The Local Authority bans them for P.E. and swimming. The Governors of this school have ruled that no jewellery, other than a wrist watch, can be worn in school. Shoes must be worn as standard uniform. Nail varnish is also not be worn by children.

LOST PROPERTY

Please can all property and clothing belonging to your children have their names written or sewn in.

HAIR

Please use plain hair bands and clips for children’s hair. Fashion bows or headbands are not part of our school uniform. Please can long hair be tied back.

At Sacred Heart, Mohican hairstyles and shaved patterns into hair are not acceptable.

MEDICINES

Please make sure that the medicines permission form has been completed if your child needs prescribed medicine in school. If you need a form (for prescribed medicines only), please contact the school office or see Mrs. Bowden.

ADMISSIONS FOR FUTURE YEARS

If you would like to add your child to the admissions list, please see me or Mrs Fairclough. If you have a sibling of a child currently at Sacred Heart, it is still worth registering with us. We also hold registers of interest for 2018 and 2019.

Y3/4 SPORTSHALL ATHLETICS

Well done to our children competing in their first athletics event for the school, they competed brilliantly against the other local schools, with some excellent individual and relay performances, which bodes well for the future!

SCHOOL CAR PARK

Please could all parents refrain from using the school car park at all times. This includes when collecting children from clubs that finish at 4.30pm, as we do not have the space for all cars, and to protect the safety of parents and children.

SCHOOL MEALS

We are continuing to retain our school meal price at £1.65 per meal, which we will continue to keep for the foreseeable future, still the lowest of all the local schools. School requires two weeks notice if you change from school dinner to packed lunch or vice versa. The children who have regular school dinners are eligible for a prize draw later this term.

GYMNASTICS

Congratulations to Verity Beaumont-Cooke, Layla Andrews and Lexie Latham for winning gold medals at the Burnley Gymnastics Championships, well done!

CROSS COUNTRY

We will be entering a team for the annual cross country at Stanah country park before Easter, and we have been practising running at Stanah.
