April Newsletter

Thursday, March 30th, 2017

The children are starting to benefit from the warmer weather with more activities outdoors, particularly using our extensive grounds for science, PE and art activities. We have lots of sporting activities next term, and several competitions to participate in.

We are also holding our annual Chocolate Bingo on Thursday 30th March at 6pm in the hall.

Mr Eaton

Thank you to everyone for supporting the Mother’s Day event and sending in presents and money, and to the Catholic Women’s League for wrapping the gifts.

Congratulations to Rafael Eaton for competing at the British Schools’ Biathlon Championships, representing Sacred Heart at the event at the National Sports Centre in Crystal Palace.
Rafael achieved his personal best in both the run and swim. Congratulations for a wonderful personal achievement, finishing 6th out of 120 competitors. Rafael also represented Lancashire for the first time, at the Regional Sports hall championships at Sports City in Manchester.

Congratulations also to Jonathan Fielding and Kristen Beswick, who competed in the Regional Swimming Champsionships, who like Rafael, swam in the Olympic-size 50m swimming pool, at Sheffield. The children also scored personal bests in their races, and I hope they take great confidence in their success.

Congratulations to Scarlett Tushingham for winning the regional event in Burnley, well done for committing so much time to practice and training!

Congratulations to Year 5 who competed at the inaugural dance competition at the Marine Hall. The children had put a lot of time and effort into their rehearsals, and put in an excellent performance on the night.

On behalf of all the staff involved with the Mary Poppins production, we would like to congratulate all the children involved in the fantastic performances. The children have utterly excelled, with superb acting, singing and dancing, particularly with all the songs and dances they learned.

Thank you to all of the adults and staff who have supported the children. Their dedication and commitment is mirrored in the efforts of the children, who have thoroughly enjoyed this wonderful experience. Thank you to FOSH for their kind donations towards the costumes.

Congratulations to both our Quiz teams for finishing third at the Top of the Wyre Quiz.
Well done to: Grace, Elliotte, Anirudh, Reece and Taylor.

Our Years 3 and 4 children competed in the sports hall athletics competition at Cardinal Allen, putting in some excellent track and field performances.

Thank you to Father Peter and Deacon Edwards for leading the children in the Reconciliation Service last week, as part of our Lentern reflections.

If you need childcare before or after school, please see the school office, or ring Mrs Porter direct on 07538924508.

The Breakfast Club is open from 7.30am until school time, and children receive food and drinks at both the breakfast and after school clubs.

Congratulations to our Tag Rugby teams who won the Shield at the Wyre competition, and especially to Team 2, who came third overall. Well done to all three teams for your amazing try-scoring exploits!

Thank you to the children and families who have committed to the Holy Communion programme. The children will receive excellent support from the parish, the Catechists and Father Peter as they prepare for their first Holy Communion, following their first Reconciliation on Saturday.

Articles of jewellery (including earrings) are not allowed in school, they could cause injury to the wearer or another person. Earrings have been a constant source of argument and injury in the past. The Local Authority bans them for P.E. and swimming. The Governors of this school have ruled that no jewellery, other than a wrist watch, can be worn in school. Shoes must be worn as standard uniform. Please ensure all nail varnish is removed before attending school.

Please can all property and clothing belonging to your children have their names written or sewn in.

Please could all parents refrain from using the school car park when collecting children from clubs that finish at 4.30pm, and especially dropping off at school time in the morning.

Thank you to Mrs Rae for all her hard work, with support from Mrs Boulton and several parents, for the extremely successful performance at the Opera House. We have lots of wonderful feedback regarding how well the children performed, and the audience clearly loved their performance. Congratulations!

If you would like to add your child to the admissions list, please see me or Mrs Fairclough. If you have a sibling of a child currently at Sacred Heart, it is still worth registering with us. We also hold registers of interest for 2018 and 2019.

We have the Easter Chocolate Bingo on Thursday 30th March at 6pm in school.
Our next meeting is in school at 3.30pm on Tuesday 2nd May.
We will be discussing summer fair and spending money!

If there is any child who would like to learn to play the violin, guitar, keyboard, clarinet, flute or brass, please speak to Mr Eaton or Mrs Fairclough, and we can arrange this for you.

We are continuing to retain our school meal price at £1.65 per meal, which we will continue to keep for the foreseeable future, still the lowest of all the local schools. School requires two week notice if you change from school dinner to packed lunch or vice versa.
