December Newsletter

Wednesday, December 2nd, 2015

We are looking forward to all of the Christmas events in school and Church. We have the music concert, nativities, the junior concert, the panto visit and the Christmas Fayre in the next three weeks!

We hope you enjoy all the Christmas activities. Our children, parents and staff have worked hard to prepare for the Christmas celebrations, and we hope that you enjoy attending our performances!

Following a long planning process, we are glad to see our building work under way, to develop the science and technology area.

Christmas fayre

We are hosting the Fayre on Tuesday 15th December, from 2.30pm. There will be a special visitor for the children to see, and we intend on having stalls with games, a raffle (top prize is a Tablet), chocolate and bottle tombolas, refreshments, and stalls for children to buy goods from, including cakes, toys, books and bric-a-brac.

Non-uniform day

We are holding a non-uniform day on

Friday 11th December

, in return for donating chocolate (infants) or a bottle (juniors) for the privilege of wearing their own clothes, to stock our bottle and chocolate tombolas at the Christmas Fair. Thank you in advance for the donations.

Infant nativity

All of our infants are performing in the Nativity in Church, starting at 6pm on Wednesday 9th December, with a matinee on Thursday 10th December at 2pm
, and all family members are welcome to attend (no tickets needed). There will be a raffle for a hamper at each performance.

British biathlon championships

Congratulations to Rafael Eaton for qualifying for the British Biathlon Championships, and for holding his nerve to compete so well at the event.

Over the weekend there were over 800 competitors, and Rafael achieved personal bests in both the swimming and running, winning his running heat and finishing 8th overall, just 50 points behind third place. Thank you to everyone who has supported him, especially the runners and swimmers, and thank you to Mr Cooke for helping our children in our Wednesday swimming lessons. If any more children are interested in the biathlon, please see Mr Eaton for more details.

Christmas music concert

The children have been working hard to prepare for the concert, with Year 3 performing Samba and singing, and Year 5 will be performing the ukuleles with Mr Smith.

Every child who has tuition from school will also be taking part in the performance, for their parents. The event is not ticketed, and will take place for parents at 3.30pm on Tuesday 8th December 2015 in the school hall.

I am sure it will be enjoyable as always, and thank you for supporting our children in the early stages of learning to play an instrument.

Junior Christmas concert

All of our juniors are performing in the Junior Christmas Concert, in Church, starting at 6pm on Wednesday 16th December, and all family members are welcome to attend (no tickets needed). There will be a raffle for a hamper too!

Blackpool dance festival

Thank you to Mrs Rae for all her hard work, with support from several staff, and congratulations to our dancers for their excellent performance at the Opera House. We were very proud of your achievements at the Dance Festival, and it had a wonderful reaction from the 2000 strong audience.

Sporting competitions

Congratulations to our team for winning the Indoor Athletics competition. The children now qualify for the regional finals, held in January. We had lots of winners of races in the competition (winning 14 out of 24 events), and overall, it was a landslide victory!

Our children in Year 6 finished third in the recent Wyre Schools Quiz, featuring 12 schools. Congratulations for a fantastic effort to our team (Lazarus Hammond, Daniel O’Neill, Kaitlyn Acheson, Jessica Heginbotham).

Reminders

Articles of jewellery are not allowed in school, they could cause injury to the wearer or another person. Earrings have been a constant source of argument and injury in the past. The Local Authority bans them for P.E. and swimming. The Governors of this school have ruled that no jewellery, other than a wrist watch, can be worn in school. Shoes must be worn as standard uniform. Please ensure all nail varnish is removed before attending school.

Lost property

Please can all property and clothing belonging to your children have their names written or sewn in.

Hair

At Sacred Heart, Mohican hairstyles and shaved patterns into hair are not acceptable.

Remembrance Sunday parade

Thank you to all of the children, parents and staff who attended the Remembrance Service, showing respect for those who have lost their lives through war.

Admissions for future years

If you would like to add your child to the admissions list, please see me or Mrs Fairclough. If you have a sibling of a child currently at Sacred Heart, it is still worth registering with us. We also hold registers of interest for 2016 and 2017.

Friends of Sacred Heart

We have our next meeting of the school year on Tuesday 12th January 2016 at 3.30pm, and all parents and grandparents are welcome to attend, and share new (and old) ideas for our school social and fundraising events. We will also be voting in the new Chair and Vice Chair of the committee.

Music

If there is any child who would like to learn to play the violin, guitar, keyboard, clarinet, flute or brass, please speak to Mr Eaton or Mrs Fairclough, and we can arrange this for you.

School meals

We are continuing to retain our school meal price at £1.65 per meal, which we will continue to keep for the foreseeable future, still the lowest of all the local schools. School requires two week notice if you change from school dinner to packed lunch or vice versa.
