July Newsletter

Wednesday, July 1st, 2015

On behalf of the staff of Sacred Heart, we would like to thank all parents, Governors and parishioners for their help and support throughout the year. I would like to thank all the children for all their hard work, and we intend to keep up the achievement next year. I hope everyone has a wonderful summer holiday, and we finish at 1.30pm on Friday 17th July!

Mrs Dean and Mr White

We are also sad to say that both Mrs Dean and Mrs White are retiring at the end of this term. They have both worked at school in excess of 20 years, and will be much missed by children, staff and parents. They have made such an impact of all pupils’ lives, and will always be welcome back to visit anytime!

Borwick Residential

Year 6 recently attended Borwick Hall outdoor activity centre. Their behaviour was impeccable, and they had a wonderful time with the activities and being away together. We would like to thank the staff for giving up their time to accompany the children.

School trips

The infants are visiting Liverpool this week! The children will be spending 5 hours at Liverpool FC’s trophy room, and 10 minutes at Everton’s.

Ribby Hall

As a reward for their achievements and huge contributions to our school over the last seven years, we are taking Year 6 to Ribby Hall for a day of sport, to experience the facilities, and hopefully continue with a love of sport and fitness.

Summer fair

Thank you to everyone who helped with our Summer Fair. The atmosphere at the Fair was very good, and we appreciate the support from families, and the preparation and hard work by volunteers, staff and children for organising stalls.

School uniform orders

School uniform orders are available for collection from the school office.

Chair of governors

We are sad to say that Deacon Edwards is stepping down from the Governing Body this summer. He has served the school for 25 years, and his expertise and leadership will be much missed.

Our new Chair of Governors will be Mr Richard Clegg, who is a key member of our Parish, and has served as a Governor for 15 years.

Sporting competitions

We have many children competing in many events with other schools over the next few weeks, alongside competitions being run at school.

We are taking part in the Wyre Rounders tournament and Wyre Athletics.

Thank you to all the staff for preparing the children for these events, and thank you to the children for trying their best at each tournament. Thank you to all parents who come to support and give lifts to the children.

Congratulations to the children in Years 3 and 4 for finishing 3rd in the Wyre Tennis Tournament, which was our best ever result. Thank you to Mrs Johnson, Miss Evans and Miss Bradley for preparing the children.

Girls’ football

The girls played several games against Rossall, which was a great experience, with all the games being close contests, and ending in draws. Well done to the girls for their hard work in developing their skills over the year.

Our Year 6 mixed cricket team came third in the Wyre cricket heat, well done for your battling performances and in particular, fantastic fielding! Our Girls’ Cricket team also competed extremely well in the girls’ cricket tournament, and we will be having a house tournament this month to build on their enjoyment of the game.

Congratulations to the Year 5 children for finishing third in the Rossall hockey tournament. They played extremely well, winning several matches.

The Breakfast Club is open from 7.30am until school time, and children receive food and drinks at both the breakfast and after school clubs.

Admissions for future years

If you would like to add your child to the admissions list, please see me or Mrs Fairclough. If you have a sibling of a child currently at Sacred Heart, it is still worth registering with us. We hold registers of interest for 2016 and 2017.

Holy communion

Congratulations to the 16 children who took the First Holy communion on Sunday 21st June. On behalf of the school, thank you for making the commitment to your faith, and I am sure it was an experience that will live with you for the recent of your lives.

Absences and appointments

In addition to no longer being allowed to authorise holiday absences, we are now expected to see evidence of appointments, if your child requires a medical appointment during school time.

Moving up afternoons

Our September intake of new Reception class children will visit school on the afternoons of Wednesday 1st and 8th July, which gives our other classes an opportunity to spend time with their next teacher from September.

If there is any child who would like to learn to play the violin, guitar, keyboard, clarinet, flute or brass, please speak to Mrs Porter or Mrs Fairclough, so that we can arrange this for you.

Articles of jewellery are not allowed in school, they could cause injury to the wearer or another person. Earrings have been a constant source of argument and injury in the past. The Local Authority bans them for P.E. and swimming. The Governors of this school have ruled that no jewellery, other than a wrist watch, can be worn in school. Shoes must be worn as standard uniform (not boots or trainers).

Please remember that nail varnish is not permitted.

Lost property

Please can all property and clothing belonging to your children have their names written or sewn in.

Sports day

Thank you to all the parents and family members who supported the children for our sports day. The children produced some exciting races, and thank you to our staff for preparing the sports day. Thank you also to all competitors in the parents’ race, and for being good sports!

Love one another, as I have loved you.

School car park

Please could all parents refrain from using the school car park when collecting children from clubs that finish at 4.30pm, as we do not have the space for all cars, and to protect the safety of parents and children.

School meals

We are continuing to retain our school meal price at £1.65 per meal, which we will continue to keep for the foreseeable future, still the lowest of all the local schools.
