June Newsletter

Wednesday, June 10th, 2015

We are into our final half term of the school year, and we are looking forward to several school trips, sports day and other sporting activities.
We also have our Summer Music Concert on Tuesday 7th July, which is a culmination of the children’s work in music lessons this year.
Mr Eaton

Netball team

Congratulations again to our school netball team for winning 9 out of 10 matches this year and for their performance at the Blackpool, Wyre and Fylde finals in May. Thank you to Miss Green and Mrs Boulton for their commitment to the sport.

Sports day

We will be holding our annual sports day on Thursday 11th June 2015. It will begin at 1pm, and all children will be in all races. Children can run in trainers for better grip, and hopefully we will have dry weather. Please bring an umbrella.

Please can all children ensure they have their PE kit in school every day after half term.

There will also be a race for parents again!

Borwick Residential

Year 6 are going on the annual residential visit to Borwick Hall, on the 17th to 19th June. We thank the staff who are giving up their time to attend the visit, and we hope everyone has a wonderful experience.

School trips

The children in Years 5 and 6 had a very successful trip to Lancaster Castle and the Butterfly House at Williamson Park. The children behaved wonderfully, and had a very enjoyable time learning about our county’s history.

The infants are visiting Liverpool later in the term! (not Everton)

Ribby Hall

As a reward for their achievements and huge contributions to our school over the last seven years, we are taking Year 6 to Ribby Hall for a day of sport, to experience the facilities, and hopefully continue with a love of sport and fitness.

Sporting competitions

We have a lot children competing in many events with other schools over the next few weeks, alongside competitions being run at school. We are taking part in the Year 3/4 Tennis competition, the Girls’ Cricket competition (as current champions), the Norcross cricket competition, the Fleetwood Cricket competition, the Wyre Rounders tournament and Wyre Athletics.

Thank you to all the staff for preparing the children for these events, and thank you to the children for trying their best at each tournament. Thank you to all parents who come to support and give lifts to the children.

Gymnastics

Congratulations to our Gymnastics teams for their incredible performance at the Wyre Gymnastics tournament. The children came third, but only narrowly lost out on winning the whole event. Thank you to the children for their outstanding effort, and thank you to Mrs Hogarth and Mrs Boulton for their dedication in preparing the children.

Girls’ football

Congratulations to the girls in beating Hambleton 3-1, and winning three matches against The Breck A and B teams, and coming third in the Wyre girls’ football tournament. They have shown great commitment to practising weekly with Miss Evans, and it is definitely paying off!

We have been really impressed with their tenacity, skill and fitness

Absences and appointments

In addition to no longer being allowed to authorise holiday absences, we are now expected to see evidence of appointments, if your child requires a medical appointment during school time.

Moving up afternoons

Our September intake of new Reception class children will visit school on the afternoons of Wednesday 24th June, 1st and 8th July, which gives our other classes an opportunity to spend time with their teacher from September.

Admissions for future years

If you would like to add your child to the admissions list, please see me or Mrs Fairclough. If you have a sibling of a child currently at Sacred Heart, it is still worth registering with us. We hold registers of interest for 2016 and 2017.

Summer Fair

We will be holding our annual Summer Fair on Thursday 25th June 2015. It will begin at 2.30pm,

Friends of Sacred Heart

Our next meeting is Tuesday 9th June at 3.30pm.

Music

If there is any child who would like to learn to play the violin, guitar, keyboard, clarinet, flute or brass, please speak to Mrs Porter or Mrs Fairclough, so that we can arrange this for you.

School meals

We are continuing to retain our school meal price at £1.65 per meal, which we will continue to keep for the foreseeable future, still the lowest of all the local schools.

Reminders

Articles of jewellery are not allowed in school, they could cause injury to the wearer or another person. Earrings have been a constant source of argument and injury in the past. The Local Authority bans them for P.E. and swimming. The Governors of this school have ruled that no jewellery, other than a wrist watch, can be worn in school. Shoes must be worn as standard uniform (not boots or trainers).

Please remember that nail varnish is not permitted.

Lost property

Please can all property and clothing belonging to your children have their names written or sewn in.

School car park

Please could all parents refrain from using the school car park when collecting children from clubs that finish at 4.30pm, as we do not have the space for all cars, and to protect the safety of parents and children.

Hair

At Sacred Heart, dyed hair, Mohican hairstyles and shaved patterns into hair are not acceptable and long hair should be tied back. Painted nails are also not allowed.

Chess

Congratulations to the children who played in the local finals, and for coming top of our Chess Ladder. Well done to Kian Darville, Harrison Bassett and Adam Warburton.
