May Newsletter
Tuesday, May 12th, 2015
The children are now benefiting from the warmer weather with more activities outdoors, particularly using our extensive grounds for science, PE and art activities. We have lots of sporting activities this half term, and several competitions to participate in.
Mr Eaton
Netball Team
Congratulations again to our school netball team for continuing their winning ways, at the latest tournament. They have now won 9 out of 10 matches this year! Good luck to the team at the Blackpool, Wyre and Fylde finals in May. Thank you to Miss Green and Mrs Boulton for their commitment to the sport.
Sports Day
We will be holding our annual sports day on Thursday 11th June 2015. It will begin at 1pm, and all children will be in all races. Children can run in trainers for better grip, and hopefully we will have dry weather. Please bring an umbrella.
There will also be a race for parents again!
Sport-a-thon!
Thank you to the children and staff for showing great commitment to the charity event, with nine hours of continuous sport performed by all the children through the course of the day.
Please can the children collect their pledges as soon as possible, as CAFOD is a DEC member, therefore helping with the relief effort following the devastating earthquake in Nepal.
School Trips
The children in Years 3 and 4 had a very successful trip to the Manchester Sealife Centre and the Legoland Discovery Centre. The children behaved wonderfully, and had a very enjoyable time learning about sealife and being creative in the discovery centre.
Years 5 and 6 are visiting Lancaster Castle and the Butterfly House at Williamson Park, which are two historic landmarks in our county.
The infants are visiting Liverpool later in the term!
Sporting Competitions
We are competing in a Girls’ football tournament at Fuse Football, the new training ground for Fleetwood Town in May. The netball finals will take place in May. We will also be competing in the Wyre Girls’ Cricket, rounders tournament and mixed cricket tournaments.
There are also events for Athletics, football and Gymnastics coming up.
Gymnastics
Our children in Years 3 and 4 have been working hard to prepare for the Gymnastics event being held at the City of Preston Gymnastics club. Good luck to the two teams and thank you to Mrs Boulton and Mrs Hogarth for preparing the children.
Girls’ Football
We have several games coming up for the girls, including playing against Hambleton here, playing Rossall, The Breck and St Chads, and participating in the Wyre girls’ football tournament. They have shown great commitment to practising weekly with Miss Evans, and it is definitely paying off!
Rowing Team
Congratulations to our Y5/6 Rowing team for winning the Rowing competition at Cardinal Allen. It was an astonishing performance, with both of our teams finishing first and second, with a huge distance to the rest of the schools. We are so proud of the children, and in awe of their strength and stamina!
Summer Fair
We will be holding our annual Summer Fair on Thursday 25th June 2015. It will begin at 2.30pm,
Breakfast and After School Club
If you need childcare before or after school, please see the school office, or ring Mrs Porter or Mrs Melling direct on 07538924508. We have extended opening until 6pm.
The Breakfast Club is open from 7.30am until school time, and children receive food and drinks at both the breakfast and after school clubs.
Music
If there is any child who would like to learn to play the violin, guitar, keyboard, clarinet, flute or brass, please speak to Mrs Porter or Mrs Fairclough, so that we can arrange this for you.
Absences and Appointments
In addition to no longer being allowed to authorise holiday absences, we are now expected to see evidence of appointments, if your child requires a medical appointment during school time.
Reminders
Articles of jewellery are not allowed in school, they could cause injury to the wearer or another person. Earrings have been a constant source of argument and injury in the past. The Local Authority bans them for P.E. and swimming. The Governors of this school have ruled that no jewellery, other than a wrist watch, can be worn in school. Shoes must be worn as standard uniform (not boots or trainers).
Please remember that nail varnish is not permitted.
Lost Property
Please can all property and clothing belonging to your children have their names written or sewn in.
Hair
At Sacred Heart, dyed hair, Mohican hairstyles and shaved patterns into hair are not acceptable,, and long hair should be tied back. Painted nails are also not allowed.
School Meals
We are continuing to retain our school meal price at £1.65 per meal, which we will continue to keep for the foreseeable future, still the lowest of all the local schools.
Admissions for Future Years
If you would like to add your child to the admissions list, please see me or Mrs Fairclough. If you have a sibling of a child currently at Sacred Heart, it is still worth registering with us. We hold registers of interest for 2016 and 2017.
School Car Park
Please could all parents refrain from using the school car park when collecting children from clubs that finish at 4.30pm, as we do not have the space for all cars, and to protect the safety of parents and children.
