March Newsletter

Monday, March 23rd, 2015

We are beginning our preparations for Easter, which will culminate in the Easter Passion in Church in April.

We are also looking forward to Spring, and especially cultivating our seeds and garden areas, in the greenhouse and around school.

Mr Eaton

First Holy Communion

Thank you to the children and families who have committed to the Holy Communion programme.  We have a record number this year, and they will receive excellent support from the parish, the Catechists and Father Peter as they prepare for their first Holy Communion and Reconciliation.

Mothers’ Day Event

Thank you to all parents and children in advance, for bringing in presents for our Mother’s Day event, and a special thank you to the parents and parishioners who will be wrapping the presents for the children.

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang

We are looking forward to the shows, and the children and adults have worked very hard in preparation.

Thank you to the children for the commitment, and to Miss Darville, Mrs Bowden, Mrs Heatley, Mrs Urmston, Mrs Rogerson and Mrs Birch for their hard work in preparing the children.

The performance dates (in school) are as follows:

  • Tuesday 10th March 6.00pm
  • Thursday 12th March 6.00pm
  • Friday 13th March 1.30pm

There is no admission charge but there is a raffle at each performance.

Easter Passion in Church

Thank you to Year 5 for preparing for the Easter Passion, which will take place in Church at 9.30am on Wednesday 1st April 2015.

Easter Chocolate Bingo

We are looking forward to hosting the annual Chocolate Bingo on Thursday 26th March 2015, at 6pm.

It is free entry, but bingo cards need to be purchased, and there will be refreshments available.

Each game will have a chocolate prize for the first line, and a Chocolate hamper for house.

Easter Gardens

We are running our competition for the Easter Gardens, where children can design an Easter Garden, in  a seed tray.  There will be prizes for the best entries, and the deadline is Friday 17th April.

Sporting Competitions

We are competing in a Tag Rugby tournament at Fuse Football, the new training ground for Fleetwood Town.  We will be playing in the football Elliot cup.

The netball competitions also start in March, and we will be holding a house netball competition for Y3/4 too.

We will also be getting the cricket sets out soon, particularly trying to regain Wyre Girls’ Cricket title (lost by one run in the final last year)!

In March there are events for cross country and Y3/4 athletics.

Swimming Gala

We competed in the annual swimming gala (being champions for the last two years).  For the third year in succession, we were the only school to reach all ten finals, showing great consistency, technique and speed.  We are really proud of the children’s commitment and preparation for the event.  We competed against many schools who are twice the school size, so to compete so well against them and be the highest placed single form (normal size!) primary school is a tremendous achievement.

Athletics Regional Finals

Following competing in the regional athletics finals, we are delighted to announce we had medalists in the individual and team events.

Our boys’ Chest Push team won bronze overall, our boys’ javelin team won bronze,  our girls’ Standing Triple Jump team won silver, our boys Paarlauf won silver, and our girls’ Paarlauf team also won silver.

Kathryn Colluney achieved the amazing feat of becoming Wyre and Fylde individual champion for both Standing Long Jump and Standing Triple Jump.

Congratulations to all of our medalists!

Breakfast and After School Club

If you need childcare before or after school, please see the school office, or ring Mrs Porter or Mrs Melling direct on 07538924508.  We have extended opening until 6pm.

The Breakfast Club is open from 7.30am until school time, and children receive food and drinks at both the breakfast and after school clubs.

Admissions for Future Years

If you would like to add your child to the admissions list, please see me or Mrs Fairclough.  If you have a sibling of a child currently at Sacred Heart, it is still worth registering with us.  We also hold registers of interest for 2016 and 2017.

Friends of Sacred Heart

We will be having our next meeting of the school year on Tuesday 17th March 2015, and all parents and grandparents are welcome to attend, to share ideas for our school social and fundraising events.

If there is any child who would like to learn to play the violin, guitar, keyboard, clarinet, flute or brass, please speak to Mrs Porter or Mrs Fairclough, so that we can arrange this for you.

School Meals

We are continuing to retain our school meal price at £1.65 per meal, which we will continue to keep for the foreseeable future, still the lowest of all the local schools.

Absences and Appointments

In addition to no longer being allowed to authorise holiday absences, we are now expected to see evidence of appointments, if your child requires a medical appointment during school time.

Articles of jewellery are not allowed in school, they could cause injury to the wearer or another person. Earrings have been a constant source of argument and injury in the past. The Local Authority bans them for P.E. and swimming. The Governors of this school have ruled that no jewellery, other than a wrist watch, can be worn in schoolShoes must be worn as standard uniform (not boots or trainers).

Lost Property

Please can all property and clothing belonging to your children have their names written or sewn in.

At Sacred Heart, dyed hair, Mohican hairstyles and shaved patterns into hair are not acceptable,, and long hair should be tied back. Painted nails are also not allowed.

School Car Park

Please could all parents refrain from using the school car park when collecting children from clubs that finish at 4.30pm, as we do not have the space for all cars, and to protect the safety of parents and children.
