February Newsletter

Monday, February 9th, 2015

The children have been making the most of their opportunities across school this term, with countless clubs and events taking place!

Lots of children are participating in the clubs, sporting, cooking and musical clubs. We are looking forward to the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang performances next month, as the children and adults have worked very hard in preparation for this.

Mr Eaton

First Holy Communion

Father Peter would to invite any baptised children in Year 3 who would like to participate in the First Holy Communion programme, culminating in taking the Communion for the first time in June.

Father Peter is available to speak to on Thursday 5th February at 3.30pm in the Year 3 classroom, when he can answer any questions or parents can put the children’s names forward. The preparation is also open to ANY child who is baptised and is in Y4-6, who may not have taken their First Holy Communion yet.

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang

Thank you to all the children who auditioned for CCBB, with over 100 showing an interest in participating in our next show. Congratulations to the children shortlisted for acting parts, and there will be a role for every child in the show who auditioned.

Thank you to the children for the commitment, and to Miss Darville, Mrs Bowden, Mrs Heatley, Mrs Urmston, Mrs Rogerson and Mrs Birch for their hard work in preparing the children.

The performance dates (in school) are as follows:

  • Tuesday 10th March 6.00pm
  • Thursday 12th March 6.00pm
  • Friday 13th March 1.30pm

Lancashire Sport School of the Year!

It is an amazing achievement by our school to be given the honour of Lancashire Sport School of the Year, and it recognises the dedication, commitment and enthusiasm of all of our children, staff, parents and governors to sport and promoting physical activity. We will continue to give as many physical activity and sporting opportunities throughout the school year.

Sporting Competitions

We are also competing in a Tag Rugby tournament in February at Fleetwood, and a hockey tournament in March in Rossall. We will be playing in the football Elliot cup.

The netball competitions also start in March, and we will be holding a house netball competition for Y3/4 too.

We will also be getting the cricket sets out soon, particularly trying to regain Wyre Girls’ Cricket title (lost by one run in the final last year)!

In March there are events for cross country and Y3/4 athletics.

Swimming Lessons

It has been a pleasure to teach Year 5 for the last year in swimming, and all the swimming teachers involved have been delighted with their progress.

Year 4 will be starting swimming on Wednesday 25th February, and we are looking forward to giving the opportunity to the children to swim for a year.

Swimming Gala!

We have chosen our team for the swimming gala on Wednesday 11th February.

We are actually defending the trophy, having won the tournament last year for the second successive year. The children have been working very hard on their techniques, and we also held a house competition, and the standard was incredible.

Future Events

  • Non-uniform day for Mothers’ Day gifts 6/3/15
  • Mother’s Day Events 13/3/15
  • Easter Chocolate Bingo 26/3/15

Breakfast and After School Club

If you need childcare before or after school, please see the school office, or ring Mrs Porter or Mrs Melling direct on 07538924508. We have extended opening until 6pm.

The Breakfast Club is open from 7.30am until school time, and children receive food and drinks at both the breakfast and after school clubs.

Athletics Regional Finals

The Athletics team gave up their Sunday to take part in the Regional Finals at Blackpool Sports Centre. The children finished 6th on the day out of all the schools in the two districts. Congratulations to all the children who participated and worked hard to practice their events.

Thank you again to the parents and staff who gave up their Sunday to support our children.

Absences and Appointments

In addition to no longer being allowed to authorise holiday absences, we are now expected to see evidence of appointments, if in the unlikelihood your child requires a medical appointment during school time.

Admissions for Future Years

If you would like to add your child to the admissions list, please see me or Mrs Fairclough. If you have a sibling of a child currently at Sacred Heart, it is still worth registering with us. We also hold registers of interest for 2016 and 2017.

Friends of Sacred Heart

We will be having our next meeting of the school year on Tuesday 24th February 2015, and all parents and grandparents are welcome to attend, to share ideas for our school social and fundraising events

If there is any child who would like to learn to play the violin, guitar, keyboard, clarinet, flute or brass, please speak to Mrs Porter or Mrs Fairclough, so that we can arrange this for you.

School Meals

We are continuing to retain our school meal price at £1.65 per meal, which we will continue to keep for the foreseeable future, still the lowest of all the local schools.

Blackpool Music Festival

Thank you to Mrs Rae for all her hard work, with support from several staff, as she prepares the children for the Blackpool Music Festival on Tuesday 17th March, at Blackpool Opera House.

Articles of jewellery are not allowed in school, they could cause injury to the wearer or another person. Earrings have been a constant source of argument and injury in the past. The Local Authority bans them for P.E. and swimming. The Governors of this school have ruled that no jewellery, other than a wrist watch, can be worn in school. Shoes must be worn as standard uniform (not boots or trainers).

Lost Property

Please can all property and clothing belonging to your children have their names written or sewn in.
