Monday, February 17th, 2014

I am writing to confirm the Parents’ Evening being Tuesday 25th February 2014 (not the day after, as mentioned in the newsletter). Please sign up for time slot with the relevant teacher, if you have not done so already.

Through sheer grit, determination and being incredibly talented and hardworking, our school swimming team won last night’s swimming gala, for the second year in succession!

This unprecedented success has made our staff and fellow children very proud, and I am sure all parents are equally thrilled!

Congratulations to the children for their success, and to Mrs McGreevy, Mrs Boulton and Mrs Heatley for their teaching of all of our swimmers.

Huge congratulations on becoming Wyre Swimming Champions to:
Amy Porter, Marianna Ellis-Gray, Kathryn Colluney, Ellie Baines, Safron Rogerson, Millie Rowe, Joshua Rolinson, Ronnie Almond, Kieron McNally, Sam Thorpe-Davis;
Isobel Wheeldon, Emily Urmston, James Rowe, Matthew Hayes (and to those four for becoming the Backstroke Relay Wyre Champions);
Michael Ross, Lily Eaton, Ryan McGreevy, Sophie Whiteside (and to those four for becoming the Breaststroke Relay Wyre Champions).

February Newsletter 2014

Monday, February 3rd, 2014

The children have been making the most of their opportunities across school this term, with countless clubs and events taking place!
Lots of children are participating in the clubs, sporting, cooking and musical clubs. We are looking forward to the Matilda performances next week, as the children have worked very hard in preparation for this.

Mr Eaton

Subject to planning permission and funding, we are hoping to build a multi-use games area on the unused land by the infant playground. This will give us an extended area for many uses, including sport, on an all-weather pitch.
There will be a fence around it (and maybe netting over it), and hopefully we can start work on this by Easter!

We are also looking to modernise our IT equipment in the school hall, by installing a new projector and automatic screen, which will have many uses, for performances, assemblies, and teaching classes!

The rehearsal stage of the preparation for Matilda is coming to an end, and the children have been excellent in terms of learning lines, dances and songs, and our Year 6 children have even been choreographers for all of the dances!
Thank you to the children for their commitment, and to Miss Darville, Mrs Birch, Mrs Urmston, Mrs Rogerson and Miss Green for their hard work in preparing the children.

The performance dates (in school) are as follows:
-Tuesday 4th February 6.30pm

We have chosen our team for the swimming gala on Thursday 13th February.
We are actually defending the trophy, having won the tournament last year for the first time. The children have been working very hard on their techniques, and we also held a house competition, and the standard was incredible. I don’t think I would have even qualified for the final had I been competing! (I am more of a distance swimmer though)

We are also competing in a Tag Rugby tournament in March at Rossall, and a hockey tournament in March in Rossall. We will be playing in the quarter finals of the football Elliot cup, with a place in the finals at Blackpool FC at stake!
The netball competitions also start in March, and we will be holding a house netball competition for Y3/4 too.
We will also be getting the cricket sets out soon, particularly in defence of our Wyre Girls’ Cricket title!

In addition to no longer being allowed to authorise holiday absences, we are now expected to see evidence of appointments, if your child needs a medical appointment during school time, which we know is unlikely. Unnecessary, repeated absence will be deemed as unauthorised.

If you need childcare before or after school, please see the school office, or ring Mrs Porter or Mrs Melling direct on 07538924508. We have extended opening until 6pm.
The Breakfast Club is open from 7.30am until school time, and children receive food and drinks at both the breakfast and after school clubs.

The Athletics team gave up their Sunday to take part in the Regional Finals at Thornton YMCA. The children finished 7th on the day, and 7th out 110 schools in the two districts. Congratulations to all the children who participated and worked hard to practice their events, and several of whom won their actual event.
Thank you again to the parents and staff who gave up their Sunday to support our children.

Just to remind juniors that they can buy fruit at break time for 20p a piece from our fruit tuck shop. No other snacks, apart from fruit, are allowed at break time.

Articles of jewellery are not allowed in school, they could cause injury to the wearer or another person. Earrings have been a constant source of argument and injury in the past. The Local Authority bans them for P.E. and swimming. The Governors of this school have ruled that no jewellery, other than a wrist watch, can be worn in school. Shoes must be worn as standard uniform (not boots or trainers).

Please can all property and clothing belonging to your children have their names written or sewn in.

At Sacred Heart, Mohican hairstyles and shaved patterns into hair are not acceptable.

Please could all parents refrain from using the school car park when collecting children from clubs that finish at 4.30pm, as we do not have the space for all cars, and to protect the safety of parents and children.

If you would like to add your child to the admissions list, please see me or Mrs Fairclough. If you have a sibling of a child currently at Sacred Heart, it is still worth registering with us. We also hold registers of interest for 2014 and 2015.

We will be having our next meeting of the school year on Tuesday 25th February 2014, and all parents and grandparents are welcome to attend, to share ideas for our school social and fundraising events, including the Easter Chocolate Bingo.

If there is any child who would like to learn to play the violin, guitar, keyboard, clarinet, flute or brass, please speak to Mrs Porter or Mrs Fairclough, so that we can arrange this for you.

We are continuing to retain our school meal price at £1.65 per meal, which we will continue to keep for the foreseeable future, still the lowest of all the local schools.

Thank you to all the staff who have given up their time to start clubs for the children already this term.
