March 2013 Newsletter

We are having an enjoyable and busy year so far in school, with the children progressing well across school, and enjoying school life. We are very grateful to the hard work and dedication of all of our staff, and all the opportunities they have given to the children.

WYRE SWIMMING CHAMPIONS 2013

Our swimming gala team achieved outstanding and unprecedented success at the Gala before half term. We have previously won the title of best single form entry school, coming third overall. But this year, we came first overall!!
Our team became the first single form entry, and the first school outside Fleetwood, to win the entire Gala, and become Wyre Swimming Champions 2013!
Congratulations to all of the children. Every individual and relay team reaching the final, which again is unprecedented, with all finishing third or higher in the actual finals!
Congratulations to the following children: Holly Whiteside, George Smith, Erin Brodrick, Isobel Wheeldon, Ryan McGreevy, Lily Eaton, Michael Ross, Sam Thorpe-Davis, Ellie Baines, Maja Kazmierczak, Safron Rogerson, James Rowe, Matthew Hayes, Emily Urmston, Joshua Rolinson, Sam Reese.

Thank you to Mrs McGreevy, Mrs Boulton and all the staff involved for their teaching and support of the children.

BLACKPOOL MUSIC FESTIVAL

Thank you to Mrs Rae for all her hard work, with support from several staff, for all her preparation of the children for the Blackpool Music Festival at Blackpool Opera House. It was a fantastic evening, with the children’s performance being the absolute highlight of the show.

EASTER CROSS COMPETITION

We are again having an Easter cross competition, and children can enter with any design of cross, however creative. The only rule is– it has to be cross-shaped!
The deadline is Friday 22nd March, and all crosses will be displayed in the worship area in the hall. The crosses can be pictorial, floral, colourful, and of any size!

BUILDING WORK

The junior playground was extended at half term, and thank you to PM Groundworks for their amazing speed and efficiency!
Also, thank you to Simmons for improving the doors in Reception class, and to Bob Rose for lots of joinery work around school.

SPORTING COMPETITIONS

We are taking part in two events this half term, with the Cross Country at Stanah, and a Gymnastics competition soon for Years 3 and 4.

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST

Thank you to the children for the commitment, and to Miss Darville, Mrs Wood and Mrs Bowden for their hard work in preparing the children.
The performances were excellent, and the impact on the children’s confidence in peforming to a hall full of people, is immeasurable.

EXTREME READING CHALLENGE

We are taking part in the Extreme Reading challenge, which simply involves children and adults sending in pictures of themselves reading in extraordinary places and positions! Mrs Brodrick is collecting photos for a display, so please bring in any weird and wonderful pictures!

WYRE SWIMMING CHAMPIONS 2013

Our team became the first single form entry, and the first school outside Fleetwood, to win the entire Gala, and become Wyre Swimming Champions 2013!

Congratulations to all of the children. Every individual and relay team reaching the final, which again is unprecedented, with all finishing third or higher in the actual finals! Seven of the ten entries also won their heats!

Congratulations to the following children: Holly Whiteside, George Smith, Erin Brodrick, Isobel Wheeldon, Ryan McGreevy, Lily Eaton, Michael Ross, Sam Thorpe-Davis, Ellie Baines, Maja Kazmierczak, Safron Rogerson, James Rowe, Matthew Hayes, Emily Urmston, Joshua Rolinson, Sam Reese.

Holly came third in the backstroke final, while Ryan (freestyle), Erin (freestyle), Lily (breaststroke), Michael (breaststroke) and Matthew (backstroke) all came second in the individual finals.

The boys freestyle relay team came third in the final (Sam, James, George and Joshua), and the girls freestyle relay team came second in the final (Maja, Safron, Ellie and Isobel).

We have two Wyre school Relay Champions, with our Mixed Breaststroke Relay team (Erin, Lily, Michael, Ryan) and Mixed Backstroke Relay team (Holly, Matthew, Sam and Emily). Congratulations to both teams for finishing first in the final.
