Autumn Term News – Year 3

Interview with Father Peter

During the autumn term, Year 3 children went to Church to find out more about the Church and Father Peter, his life and his commitments. They had the opportunity to look around Church and ask any questions. At the end of the session they interviewed Father Peter. The children found the session very interesting.

Year 3 children have also been talking about how we are all part of God’s family. They learnt about what happened during a Baptismal service and why the different symbols are used and their significance to the catholic faith. They finally re-enacted a Baptism. This was a lovely experience and the children found it an invaluable learning experience.

Skipping Competition

15 children from Year 3 and 4 entered a skipping competition at Cardinal Allen High School this autumn. They had practiced on the playground for weeks beforehand. When they went to the competition they tried their hardest and did very well.

School News: November

Sunday, November 1st, 2009

We are expecting to have an exciting half term, as we build up towards Christmas, with all children involved in performances, a visit to the panto, Spellbinder’s visit, the Craft fair, Christmas Fair and Grotto. We hope all of our families and staff enjoy the build up to Christmas, and we can prepare our children for Advent in an enjoyable and spiritual way.

Mr Eaton

Remembrance Sunday

We will be taking part in the parade to the War Memorial on Sunday 8th November. We have been very proud of the number of families from Sacred Heart who have taken part, showing such respect for those whose lives have been damaged by war. If you would like to participate, we will be meeting in the Library car park at 10.30am.

The hugely popular and successful Spellbinder returns on 3rd December, which was one of the most memorable days of last year. I’m sure the children will be enthralled again, and I hope there isn’t too much embarrassing of our staff!

School/Parish Mass

We are holding a school / Parish Mass on Sunday 15th November, at 10am, and we hope to see many of you there.
We will be presenting our shoeboxes for the Operation Christmas Child charity as part of the Mass, and the children will be involved in preparing the Mass.
The Mass will be followed by the Parish Christmas Fair in the Bamber Room.

Congratulations to our Year 3 and 4 athletics teams, who performed fantastically at the recent athletics tournament at Cardinal Allen. Their performance and behaviour was a credit to themselves, their families and their school. The children finished second overall, behind St Wulstans (a school with twice as many children as us!).

I would like repeat the invitation to all Parishioners to feel free to come to Friday assemblies and special school events, you are always welcome!

Morrisons are resuming the ‘Let’s Grow’ campaign, to encourage schools to collect vouchers for gardening equipment. If you shop in Morrisons, please ask for a voucher every time, as we will be collecting again in school.

Operation Christmas Child

We will be collecting for the charity Operation Christmas Child until the 16th November. We would appreciate it if you could find the time to fill a shoe box with recommended items. We had a fantastic response in 2007 when we tried this in school, and our Parish are also joining in this year. We appreciate any donations for this worthy project. (We are the drop-off point– please see the letter and leaflets sent out).
