March Newsletter

We are in the midst of a very intense half term, packed full of events, and only four weeks left before Easter! We hope everyone enjoys participating the various activities, and good luck especially to those involved in shows, such as Joseph and the Music Festival at the Opera House.

We are also holding our annual Chocolate Bingo on Wednesday 23rd March at 6pm in the hall.

Mr Eaton

JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT!
We are really looking forward to watching the musical, now the rehearsals are complete and the stage is literally set!
Thank you to the children for the commitment, and to Miss Darville, Mrs Bowden, Mrs Porter, Mrs Urmston and Mrs Birch for their hard work in preparing the children.
The performance dates (in school) are as follows:
-Tuesday 1st March 6.00pm
-Thursday 3rd March 6.00pm
-Friday 4th March 1.30pm

There will be a raffle and refreshments at each performance (payable!)

BIATHLON
Congratulations to the 28 children who competed in the recent Rossall Biathlon. We brought the biggest team of children, and we were delighted with the determination shown by the children, particularly running in such difficult conditions. They should take a lot pride from their performances, as if they decide to compete in future events, they will find it easier after their first experience, and for achieving personal bests.
Congratulations to the Year 5 boys team (Alfie, Aidan, Curtiss, Daniel, Rafael, Harry, Tyler and Jonathon) who came third overall, with Jonathon finishing 13th overall (Jonathon is in Year 4!), and congratulations to Rafael who won the Year 5 boys event.

QUIZZES
Good luck to our Year 5 quiz teams, at the Science Quiz at Fleetwood High, and the Year 5 Quiz at Millfield.

SPORTING COMPETITIONS
We are competing in several upcoming tournaments, including the Y4 hockey at Rossall, the cross country at Stanah, Y3/4 Athletics, several football matches, a girls’ football match, the netball league and the Wyre Tag Rugby tournament.

MOTHER’S DAY EVENT
Thank you to everyone for bringing in Mother’s Day gifts. The children can choose a gift, and have it wrapped for £1 on Friday 4th March, by members of the Catholic Women’s League who are kindly giving up their time.

SWIMMING GALA
Congratulations to all of the children involved in the Swimming Gala. We kept up our remarkable run, by finishing in the top 3 for the fifth time in six years, and for the fourth year running, every child qualified out of their heats to compete in the finals for each event.
Congratulations to: the Breast stroke relay team (Jonathon, Millie, Emily and Adam) for coming second overall; to Rafael for coming third (in a ‘photo finish’) in an incredible freestyle final; to Daniel and Leonie for finishing third and second in the reserve races; to the boys’ freestyle relay team (Curtiss, Aidan, Daniel and Alfie); and congratulations to the Back Stroke Relay team (Yasmin, Aimee, Tyler and Rafael), who won their final!
We were the second smallest school with a majority of Year 5’s in the team, so it was a remarkable achievement!

BREAKFAST AND AFTER SCHOOL CLUB
If you need childcare before or after school, please see the school office, or ring Mrs Porter direct on 07538924508.
The Breakfast Club is open from 7.30am until school time, and children receive food and drinks at both the breakfast and after school clubs.

FIRST HOLY COMMUNION
Thank you to the children and families who have committed to the Holy Communion programme. We have a record number this year, and they will receive excellent support from the parish, the Catechists and Father Peter as they prepare for their first Holy Communion and Reconciliation (Saturday 5th March 10.30am).

REMINDERS
Articles of jewellery are not allowed in school, they could cause injury to the wearer or another person. Earrings have been a constant source of argument and injury in the past. The Local Authority bans them for P.E. and swimming. The Governors of this school have ruled that no jewellery, other than a wrist watch, can be worn in school. Shoes must be worn as standard uniform. Please ensure all nail varnish is removed before attending school.

LOST PROPERTY
Please can all property and clothing belonging to your children have their names written or sewn in.
HAIR
At Sacred Heart, Mohican hairstyles and shaved patterns into hair are not acceptable.
BLACKPOOL MUSIC FESTIVAL
Thank you to Mrs Rae for all her hard work, with support from several staff, as she prepares the children for the Blackpool Music Festival on Tuesday 8th March, at Blackpool Opera House.
ADMISSIONS FOR FUTURE YEARS
If you would like to add your child to the admissions list, please see me or Mrs Fairclough. If you have a sibling of a child currently at Sacred Heart, it is still worth registering with us. We also hold registers of interest for 2017 and 2018.

FRIENDS OF SACRED HEART
We have our next meeting of the school year on Tuesday 15th March 2016 at 3.30pm, and all parents and grandparents are welcome to attend, and share new (and old) ideas for our school social and fundraising events.

MUSIC
If there is any child who would like to learn to play the violin, guitar, keyboard, clarinet, flute or brass, please speak to Mr Eaton or Mrs Fairclough, and we can arrange this for you.

SCHOOL MEALS
We are continuing to retain our school meal price at £1.65 per meal, which we will continue to keep for the foreseeable future, still the lowest of all the local schools. School requires two week notice if you change from school dinner to packed lunch or vice versa.
