June Newsletter

We are into our final half term of the school year, and we are looking forward to several school trips, sports day and other sporting activities.

We also have our Summer Music Concert on Tuesday 12th July, which is a culmination of the children’s work in music lessons this year.

SPORTS DAY
We have been planning ahead for our sports day, and this year we are holding it at Fuse Football. The advantage is the 3G surface is flat, as our field has more undulations than ever. We hope this proves successful. The date is confirmed as Thursday 16th June, 1pm. There will be a parents’ race, over a longer distance this year (if you wanted to start your training earlier…).

SPORT PERFORMANCES
Thank you to all of our staff and parents involved in supporting our children in recent events. We are the only school locally to attend all of the events available, but we also invent events with local willing schools and clubs!
Thank you to all of the children involved, and for trying their best and being a credit to the school. The recent events included: the 6 a side football tournament, the football league finals, Y3/4 cricket, Y3/4 Hockey, netball, basketball, the NW Biathle, girls football and orienteering at Stanah.

BIATHLE
Congratulations to all of children (and parents) who got up early on Sunday 8th May, to compete in their first Biathle. This consisted of a 400m run, straight to the poolside, where the children dived in and swam 50m, then got out wet and ran another 400m. Well done especially to the children who won their age category races– Kristen Beswick (Under 8 girls), Emily Hardcastle (Under 10 girls) and Rafael Eaton (Under 10 boys).

GIRLS’ FOOTBALL
Congratulations for the girls’ performances in recent matches and at the Wyre Football tournament, where our teams finished 4th and 8th, with the A team unbeaten in 7 matches, and the B team unbeaten in 5 games.

Also, we are competing in rounders and outdoor athletics. We will be holding House tournaments too, which help us to pick our teams!
Thank you to all the staff for preparing the children for these events, and thank you to the children for trying their best at each tournament. Thank you to all parents who come to support and give lifts to the children.

NETBALL TEAM
Congratulations again to our school netball team for  winning  9 out of 11 matches this year and for their performance at the Blackpool, Wyre and Fylde finals in May, where they finished a best ever third place.  Thank you to Miss Green and Mrs Boulton for their commitment to the sport.

RIBBY HALL
As a reward for their achievements and huge contributions to our school over the last seven years, we are taking Year 6 to Ribby Hall for a day of sport, to experience the facilities, and hopefully continue with a love of sport and fitness.

BORWICK RESIDENTIAL
Year 6 are going on the annual residential visit to Borwick Hall, on the 27th to 29th June.  We thank the staff who are giving up their time to attend the visit, and we hope everyone has a wonderful experience.

MOVING UP AFTERNOONS
Our September intake of new Reception class children will visit school on the afternoons of Wednesday 6th, 13th and 20th July, which gives our other classes an opportunity to spend time with their teacher from September.

GYMNASTICS
Well done to our Years 3 and 4 gymnastics teams for competing in the Wyre Gymnastics event at Preston Gymnastics Club.

We are hoping to demonstrate some of this at our Summer Fair, and we are entering teams for the Gymnastics competition at Preston Gymnastics Centre.

HOCKEY
Congratulations to the Y3/4 Hockey team who won the Wyre Hockey competition at Rossall. It was an excellent performance by the A team, who won every game!

REMINDERS
Articles of jewellery are not allowed in school, they could cause injury to the wearer or another person. Earrings have been a constant source of argument and injury in the past. The Local Authority bans them for P.E. and swimming. The Governors of this school have ruled that no jewellery, other than a wrist watch, can be worn in school. Shoes must be worn as standard uniform. Please ensure all nail varnish is removed before attending school.

LOST PROPERTY
Please can all property and clothing belonging to your children have their names written or sewn in.

HAIR
At Sacred Heart, Mohican hairstyles and shaved patterns into hair are not acceptable.

SCHOOL TRIPS
We have a number of school trips planned:
Tuesday 21st June– Y5/6 to Chester Zoo 8.15am to 5.30pm

If you would like to add your child to the admissions list, please see me or Mrs Fairclough. If you have a sibling of a child currently at Sacred Heart, it is still worth registering with us. We also hold registers of interest for 2017 and 2018.

FRIENDS OF SACRED HEART
We have our next meeting of the school year on Tuesday 14th June 2016 at 3.30pm, and all parents and grandparents are welcome to attend, and share new (and old) ideas for our school social and fundraising events, including the summer fair.

MUSIC
If there is any child who would like to learn to play the violin, guitar, keyboard, clarinet, flute or brass, please speak to Mr Eaton or Mrs Fairclough, and we can arrange this for you.

SCHOOL MEALS
We are continuing to retain our school meal price at £1.65 per meal, which we will continue to keep for the foreseeable future, still the lowest of all the local schools.
