February 2017 Newsletter

The children have been making the most of the opportunities across school this term, with countless clubs taking place!

Lots of children are participating in the clubs, sporting and musical clubs.

We are looking forward to the Mary Poppins performances later in the month, as the children and adults are working hard in rehearsals.

Mr Eaton

PARENTS’ EVENING
We are holding our parents’ evening on Wednesday 22nd February at 3.40pm to 7pm. The letters and boards in the office will be out soon.

FOOTBALL
For the first time, we had a Y2/3 football match in January, and congratulations to the children who played against Rossall, representing school so well. We also had two teams at the FTFC Kids cup, reaching the semi-finals.

MUSIC
Year 4 will be working with Mr Smith after half term, to develop their ukulele skills. Year 5 have really enjoyed their lessons and have developed good skills, and we hope they carry on playing for enjoyment.

SWIMMING GALA
We have chosen a team for the swimming gala, and the children have been training hard during our swimming lessons in preparation for this and the biathlon. We hope the children enjoy the event, as it is always an exciting event to be part of.
HOCKEY
Following winning the Wyre Hockey tournament last May, we are representing Wyre in the Lancashire Hockey tournament, at UCLAN in March.
RUNNING CLUB
Thank you to all of the children who have been running in school regularly, helping with their fitness and bringing down their own times.
This is helping prepare the children for the cross country competition in school.
Congratulations to the top 3 girls and boys who will be representing school:

The Breakfast Club is open from 7.30am until school time, and children receive food and drinks at both the breakfast and after school clubs.

REGIONAL ATHLETICS
The Athletics team gave up their Wednesday evening to take part in the Regional Finals at Blackpool Sports Centre. The boys finished 2nd on the day out of all the schools in the two districts (12 schools qualified).
The boys long jump team were overall winners, as the boys speed bounce team, and Harry Grant had the longest jump in the competition.
Congratulations to all the children who participated and worked hard to practice their events. Thank you again to the parents and staff who gave up their evening to support our children.

REMINDERS
Articles of jewellery (including earrings) are not allowed in school, they could cause injury to the wearer or another person. Earrings have been a constant source of argument and injury in the past. The Local Authority bans them for P.E. and swimming. The Governors of this school have ruled that no jewellery, other than a wrist watch, can be worn in school. Shoes must be worn as standard uniform. Please ensure all nail varnish is removed before attending school.

LOST PROPERTY
Please can all property and clothing belonging to your children have their names written or sewn in.

SCHOOL CAR PARK
Please could all parents refrain from using the school car park when collecting children from clubs that finish at 4.30pm, and especially dropping off at school time in the morning.

HAIR
At Sacred Heart, Mohican hairstyles and shaved patterns into hair are not acceptable.

BLACKPOOL MUSIC FESTIVAL
Thank you to Mrs Rae for all her hard work, with support from several staff, as she prepares the children for the Blackpool Music Festival on Monday 6th March, at Blackpool Opera House.
Mrs Rae is also preparing Year 5 to take part in the inaugural Wyre Dance competition, later in March.

ADMISSIONS FOR FUTURE YEARS
If you would like to add your child to the admissions list, please see me or Mrs Fairclough. If you have a sibling of a child currently at Sacred Heart, it is still worth registering with us. We also hold registers of interest for 2017 and 2018.

FRIENDS OF SACRED HEART
We have recently donated money to fund costumes and props for Mary Poppins, and contributed to paying for the Panto trip and coaches. We have the Mother’s Day event in March, and the Easter Chocolate Bingo on Thursday 30th March at 6pm in school.

MUSIC
If there is any child who would like to learn to play the violin, guitar, keyboard, clarinet, flute or brass, please speak to Mr Eaton or Mrs Fairclough, and we can arrange this for you.

SCHOOL MEALS
We are continuing to retain our school meal price at £1.65 per meal, which we will continue to keep for the foreseeable future, still the lowest of all the local schools. School requires two week notice if you change from school dinner to packed lunch or vice versa.
