REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY
Thank you to the children, parents and staff who attended the annual Remembrance Sunday Service at Thornton. We appreciated the excellent turnout for this significant community event.

INDOOR ATHLETICS
Congratulations to our team for winning the Indoor Athletics competition for the fourth consecutive year! The children now qualify for the regional finals, held in January. We had lots of winners of races in the competition (winning 14 out of 24 events), and overall, it was a landslide victory! Congratulations to our 9 teams of relay winners (out of a possible 12!), plus team winners in boys speed bounce, boys triple jump, boys long jump, boys javelin and girls speed bounce.

Congratulations to individual winners, for Dominic Birch in both Speed bounce and Triple Jump (equal with Taylor McCarron), Taylor McCarron in long jump, Reece Hughes in Javelin, Louie Taylor in Chest Push, Grace Oates in both Triple Jump and Speed Bounce.

BLACKPOOL DANCE FESTIVAL
Thank you to Mrs Rae and Mrs Boulton for all their hard work, with support from several staff, and congratulations to our dancers for their excellent performance of Shrek! at the Opera House. We were very proud of your achievements at the Dance Festival, and it had a wonderful reaction from the 2000 strong audience.

MR CHARNLEY
We are sad to announce that Mr Charnley will be leaving us at the end of January as he is retiring. Mr Charnley will be much missed by our staff, children and parents, but we know we will stay in touch, and Mr Charnley has offered to help on school visits etc.!

SPORTS FIXTURES
Congratulations to the children chosen to represent school for our fixtures at Rossall, the children competed extremely well at both football and hockey.

We are currently preparing our children for the Y4-6 Swimming match at Rossall.

CROSS COUNTRY
Congratulations to Grace Oates for finishing 24th at the British Cross Country Challenge at Sefton Park in Liverpool for under 11 girls (for Blackpool, Wyre and Fylde Athletics Club). It was an excellent run in treacherous conditions, following the recent appalling weather!

SPORTSHALL ATHLETICS
Congratulations to Grace Oates and Dominic Birch for their outstanding performances at the Lancashire Sportshall Competition for Blackpool, Wyre and Fylde Athletics Club. Dominic won the speed bounce and came third at 2 lap running and triple jump, with Grace coming third in speed bounce, triple jump and 2 lap running.

NON-UNIFORM DAY
We are holding a non-uniform day on Friday 15th December, in return for donating chocolate (infants) or a bottle (juniors) for the privilege of wearing their own clothes, to stock our bottle and chocolate tombola at the Christmas Fair. Thank you in advance for the donations.

FRIENDS OF SACRED HEART
We have our next meeting of the school year on Tuesday 5th December 2017 at 3.30pm, and all parents and grandparents are welcome to attend, and share new (and old) ideas for our school social and fundraising events.

CHRISTMAS MUSIC CONCERT
The children have been working hard to prepare for the concert, with Year 3 performing Samba and singing, and Year 5 will be performing the ukuleles with Mr Smith.

Every child who has tuition from school will also be taking part in the performance, for their parents. The event is not ticketed, and will take place for parents at 3.30pm on Tuesday 12th December 2017 in the school hall.

THORNTON CHRISTMAS LIGHTS
Congratulations to Reece Hughes who had the honour of switching on the Christmas Lights in Thornton, after winning the schools poetry competition.

BREAKFAST AND AFTER SCHOOL CLUB
If you need childcare before or after school, please see the school office, or ring Mrs Porter direct on 07538924508. We have extended opening until 6pm. The cost of the morning session is £2.75 and the after school session is £5.50.

The Breakfast Club is open from 7.30am until school time, and children receive food and drink at both the breakfast and after school clubs.

ABSENCES AND APPOINTMENTS
In addition to no longer being allowed to authorise holiday absences, we are now expected to see evidence of appointments, if your child requires a medical appointment during school time. Please contact school before 9.30 a.m. if your child is absent, otherwise the absence could be deemed unauthorised.

REMINDERS
Articles of jewellery are not allowed in school, as they could cause injury to the wearer or another person. Earrings have been a constant source of argument and injury in the past. The Local Authority bans them for P.E. and swimming. The Governors of this school have ruled that no jewellery, other than a wrist watch, can be worn in school. Shoes must be worn as standard uniform.

LOST PROPERTY
Please can all property and clothing belonging to your children have their names written or sewn in.

HAIR
Please use plain hair bands and clips for childrens hair, fashion bows or headbands are not part of our school uniform.

At Sacred Heart, Mohican hairstyles and shaved patterns into hair are not acceptable.

MEDICINES
Please make sure that the medicines permission form has been completed if your child needs prescribed medicine in school. If you need a form (for prescribed medicines only), please contact the school office or see Mrs. Bowden.

ADMISSIONS FOR FUTURE YEARS
If you would like to add your child to the admissions list, please see me or Mrs Fairclough. If you have a sibling of a child currently at Sacred Heart, it is still worth registering with us. We also hold registers of interest for 2018 and 2019.

JUNIOR CHRISTMAS CONCERT
All of our juniors are performing in the Junior Christmas Concert, in Church, starting at 6pm on Monday 18th December, and all family members are welcome to attend (no tickets needed). There will be a raffle for a hamper too!

SCHOOL CAR PARK
Please could all parents refrain from using the school car park at all times. This includes when collecting children from clubs that finish at 4.30pm, as we do not have the space for all cars, and to protect the safety of parents and children.

SCHOOL MEALS
We are continuing to retain our school meal price at £1.65 per meal, which we will continue to keep for the foreseeable future, still the lowest of all the local schools. School requires two weeks notice if you change from school dinner to packed lunch or vice versa. The children who have regular school dinners are eligible for a prize draw later this term.

INFANT NATIVITY
All of our infants are performing in the Nativity in Church, starting at 6pm on Wednesday 14th December, with a matinee on Thursday 15th December at 2pm, and all family members are welcome to attend (no tickets needed). There will be a raffle for a hamper at each performance.
